Forex:
Forex means Foreign Exchange Market. Foreign Exchange Market is where foreign currencies are bought or sold, and we trade currency pairs. Here, buyers and sellers are involved in the sale or purchase of currencies from different countries. Forex market is the world’s biggest, most liquid market with an average daily trading volume exceeding $5 trillion. Two types of a market in Forex Spot Market: Spot Market is a public financial market where financial currencies and commodity stocks are traded for immediate delivery. Delivery means that money exchange is a very spot transaction in this financial market. Very shortly, the spot market form of the investment period will be two or three days. Forward Market: Forward competition is a prospective investment in the market. This market is strategically dependent and standardized forward contracts are called futures contracts and traded on a futures exchange. The time set for future market investment is less than 90 days. The Forex market is open from Monday morning to Friday evening. The Forex market is always open during the week. You can “buy and sell” and thus bet on rising or falling prices. This is special and allows Forex traders to make cash when exchange rates go up and down. Market Contributors The Forex market includes many specific types of participants, the most significant positive being: 1. Central Banks and Commercial Bank 2. Companies of international trade 3. Forex brokers 4. Large, medium and small institutional investors (i.e. investment enterprises, fund managers, etc.) 5. Common retailers 6. World Traveller The actual buyers and sellers of foreign currencies- exporters, importers, tourists, investors, and world travelers. They are actual users of the currencies and approach Commercials banks to buy it. Commercial banks are the second most important body of the foreign exchange market. The banks dealing in foreign exchange play a position of “market makers” in how they quote the foreign exchange rates for purchasing and selling foreign currencies regularly. They also operate as stock exchanges, helping to sweep out the gap between demand and currency supply. These banks purchase the currencies from the brokers and sell them to the customers. Ownership of one or more companies is called stocks. If you buy some part of shares or a share in one or more companies and can be a part-owner of that company. For example, if a company has 2,000 shares of stock outstanding. And one person owns 200 shares. That person would own and have a claim to 20% of the company’s assets and earnings. The stock is the larger form of the share. “stocks” is the more general term and used to describe a slice of ownership of one or more companies. If, a person said he purchased 50 stocks. It means he would refer to 50 different companies from which he bought shares. However, there are two types of stocks
1.Common Stock: Common stocks are shares of ownership of a corporation. They allow you to own a portion of the company without taking possession. 2.Preferred Stock: Preferred stocks refers to the dividends paid by the corporation. Each year, the holders of the preferred stock are to receive their dividends before the common stockholders are to receive any dividend. Most finance career paths will be directly involved with stocks either as an adviser, an issuer or a buyer. What is the share market? Ownership of a particular company called shares. Whenever a company issues stock, each of the units of a stock is considered as a share. Therefore, one share of stock is equal to one unit of ownership in a company. Shares are a smaller unit of stocks. For example, if a person says he owns shares then some people would ask shares of which company? And what sort of investment? Similarly, an investor can tell his broker to buy him 50 shares of a particular company. However, we have two types of shares: Equity shares: Equity shares is a main source of finance for any company giving investors the right to vote, share profits and claim on assets. They allow equity share types to share capital, Issued share capital, Subscribed share capital, Paid-up capital, Rights shares, Bonus shares, and Sweat equity shares. Preference shares: Preference shares represent ownership of a corporation. A claim on its assets and earnings. Preference share types are Callable shares, Convertible shares, Cumulative shares, and Participatory shares. There are two types of shares. They are 1. Equity Shares 2. Preference Shares Equity sharesWe also know equity shares as ordinary shares. These shares have voting rights. Equity share is a main source of finance for any company giving investors the right to vote, share market profits, and claim on assets. Features of equity shares1. They are permanent. 2. Equity shareholders are the actual owners of the company and they bear the highest risk. 3. Equity shares are transferable. i.e. ownership of equity shares can be transferred with or without consideration to other people. 4. Dividend payable to equity shareholders is an appropriation of profit 5. Equity shareholders do not get a fixed rate of dividends. 6. They limit the liability of equity shareholders to the extent of their investment. Advantages of Equity Shares1. Equity shares do not create any obligation to pay a fixed rate of dividends. 2. Equity shares can be issued creating no charge over the asset of the company. 3. It is a permanent source of capital and the company has to repay it except under liquidation. 4. Equity shareholders are the real owners of the company who have voting rights. 5 With profits, equity shareholders are the real gainers with increased dividends and appreciation in the value of shares. Disadvantages of Equity Shares1. If only equity shares are issued, the company cannot take advantage of trading on equity. 2. As equity capital cannot be redeemed, there is a danger of overcapitalization. 3. Equity shareholders can put obstacles for management by manipulating and organizing themselves. 4. During prosperous periods, higher dividends have to be paid to lead to an increase in the value of shares in the market, and it leads to speculation. 5. Investors who desire to invest in safe securities with a fixed income have no attraction for such shares. Preference SharesPreference shares are those shares that carry certain special or priority rights. First, dividends at a fixed rate are payable on these shares before they pay any dividend on equity shares. Second, at the time of the winding-up of the company, it repays the capital to preference shareholders before the return of equity capital. Features of Preference Shares1. Preference shares are a long-term source of finance. 2. The dividend payable on preference shares is higher than the debenture interest. 3. Preference shareholders get a fixed rate of dividends irrespective of the volume of profit. 4. We know it as the hybrid security because it also bears some characteristics of debentures. 5. The preference dividends tax in India is not tax-deductible expenditure. 6. Preference shareholders do not have any voting rights. 7. Preference shareholders have the preferential right for repayment of capital in case of the winding-up of the company. 8. Preference shareholders also enjoy a preferential right to receive the dividend. Advantages of Preference Shares1. The earnings per share of existing preference shareholders are not diluted if fresh they issue preference shares. 2. Preference shares increase the earnings of equity shareholders, i.e. it has a leveraging benefit. 3. Preference shareholders do not have any voting rights and hence do not affect the decision making of the company. 4. The preference dividend is payable only if there is profit. Disadvantages of Preference Shares1. The preference dividend is not tax-deductible and hence it is costlier than a debenture. 2. With a cumulative preference share, the arrear dividend is payable when the company earns a profit, which creates a huge financial burden on the company. 3. Redemption of preference share again creates a financial burden and erodes the capital base of the company. 4. Preference shareholders get dividends at a constant rate and will not increase even if the company earns a huge profit, which makes this form of finance less attractive. 5. Preference shareholders do not enjoy voting rights and hence their fate is decided by the equity shareholders.
